2016-2017 FIRST SteamWorks
We were now working on our own at the new Mae C. Jemison High. Johnson had closed and the whole school moved into Jemison. We were based out of the PLTW engineering room, and had a closet where we could store our materials. We still only had a few students, but this year we did have some engineering students from Alabama A&M University. Not having experienced people on the team, though, we barely got the chassis put together by Stop Build Day.
We got to our pit at the competition and were a little panicked when we compared our robot to other teams. Fortunately Team 1108, Panther Robotics, from Kansas City, had their pit near ours and stepped in and helped our students finish getting the chassis together, and helped us manufacture two mechanisms for game play.
We made sure Panther Robotics got the Gracious Professionalism award. Thank you Panther Robotics!
Since we had nothing but a few totes and a folding table for a pit, and no safety equipment (or for that matter, tools) of any kind, we were awarded the Extreme Makeover: Pit Safety Edition by Team Flash, 1319, from Greenville, SC.
We ranked 37th out of 50 teams this season.
