About Vaccinations
As vaccines for the Coronavirus are developed and distributed it is important to remember that vaccines only work if a significant percentage of the population receives the vaccine.
It is also important to remember that vaccines take time to work - you aren't magically immune the day you get your shot. In the case of the Coronavirus vaccine, it will require a second immunization a month after the initial shot. This means that you won't likely be immune until around SIX WEEKS after your first shot. You should continue COVID-19 mitigation during this time period: masks, social distancing, hand washing.
Boosters: It's strongly recommended that you should get a vaccine booster six months after your second dose. If an additional booster is recommended for protection against new variants you should also get that one. Listen to the recommendations of the CDC and the Alabama Department of Health.
With the emergence of new variants such as Omicron, immunizations, mask wearing, social distancing, and hand washing are more important than ever. We don't want our team members to become sick! We don't want anyone to miss going to competition!
Vaccines are available now for anyone 6 months old and up, and boosters for anyone 12 years old and up. We STRONGLY recommend that all team members be vaccinated, since the Mentors and their family members are in the higher-risk categories for infections. Students, please get your vaccination to protect your mentors. Thank you!
